Three Notch’d Road, The Virginia Baroque Ensemble, celebrates Christmas with a program from Europe and the Americas. The repertoire celebrating the Nativity offers little-known music from the Baroque era to well-known favorites. In addition to music by Alessandro Scarlatti, Henrich Ignaz Biber, and J.S. Bach, you’ll hear lullabies from Poland, France, Italy, and Mexico, dances from Spain, France, and Germany, and carols from England, America, Germany, France, and Catalonia. Named for a colonial route through central Virginia, Three Notch’d Road is the area’s only professional ensemble that performs a full season of early music on period instruments. The Greencroft performance will include a baroque violin, recorders, a viola da gamba, and a bass joined by a soprano.
