President's Message

Happy Summer!

We hope you take advantage of all the exciting events at the club; from a dip in the pool, swinging a racquet on the courts, grooving to music, amazing food & drinks, friendship and so much more.

I want to encourage every member to bring at least one friend to an event. The success of the club depends on continuing to build upon the strong numbers we saw last year. John and Katy are always happy to provide tours and answer questions for prospective members to get to know the club.

I would like to thank our outgoing President, Bruce Kirtley, for his four years serving as President of the Board of Directors. He has certainly made a tremendous contribution during his time as President. Also, I would like to thank our outgoing Board members for their dedication and hard work.

On the financial front, the club continues to improve. The finance committee works closely with club management and Chef Gregg to monitor and proactively stay ahead of costs. The team is always reviewing pricing structures, especially for events, to ensure they are profitable. We encourage members to make reservations in advance, as it can be difficult to cover large swings in attendance. This will help us ensure great service, while monitoring the cost.

On a final note, I would like to encourage members to approach me and the rest of the Board in a professional manner with ideas and concerns. Your Board will continue to work tirelessly to maintain its commitment to the success and enhancement of the club. Constructive comments and ideas are appreciated.

Happy Father’s Day!

“She is a well-known painter of local, regional, and international landscapes. A devoted and driven en plein air painter, she travels with her oil paints and paint knife down the street and around the world. She does not consider her plein air works ‘studies’, and they are not done with larger pieces in mind. Rather, they are finished works that stand on their own, that may or may not inform later studio pieces. Hollett-Bazouzi taught art in Henrico County Public Schools for over 35 years. During that time she was awarded recognition at the state and local level for her art program, and achieved National Board Certification in Early/Middle Childhood Art in 2002. For over 20 years she presented workshops for Virginia art teachers at Virginia Art Education State Conferences and Central Region of Virginia mini-conferences.

She is a member of Oil Painters of America and the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, and is currently the lead artist for the Virginia Plein Air Painters.”

“A native of Virginia, he began drawing and building things early in life, under the weary eyes of understanding and encouraging parents. He received a BA from the College of William and Mary and followed that with an MFA from Carnegie Mellon University. For 10 years he worked primarily in theatre, designing scenery and costumes, but eventually switched his focus to film production and design. In 2004, he met Jack Fisk, and began an instructive, and incredibly fun 6 years, working as his art director on such projects as THE NEW WORLD, THERE WILL BE BLOOD, THE TREE OF LIFE, WATER FOR ELEPHANTS and finally as co-designer with him on THE MASTER. Other work has included JOHN ADAMS with Gemma Jackson, for which he received an Emmy Award as her American Supervising Art Director. In 2021, he was nominated for an Oscar for his production design of Paul Greengrass’s NEWS OF THE WORLD. His other design credits include KNIVES OUT, GREYHOUND, THE DOUBLE, and the upcoming Roderigo Garcia film,

Missed the Annual Meeting?

Thank you to all who either sent in proxy cards or were able to join us Wednesday, May 25th for The Greencroft Club Annual Meeting!

It was an emotional evening saying goodbye to longtime Board Members, Bobbi Dunn and
Jim Johnston. Both have faithfully served the Board through one of the most trying times in Club history. We also say goodbye to Bruce Kirtley as Board President. Although his term as President has concluded, he will continue to serve on the Board for another year. We thank them all for their service! Each time we say "goodbye" we also get to say "hello" to new Board members. We welcome David Boisvert as our new Board President and Sarah Eagleburger and Dave Reynolds to our Board.

Please contact John Van Peppen to see the minutes from the annual meeting or to get information on the yearly financials.

Pickleball at Greencroft

The pickleball courts have been very busy this past month with events, socials, lessons, clinics and league play. The Racquet Memberships have been increasing and we are leading the pickleball community here at The Greencroft Club with our 8 court facility. June is going to be another active month for families with the pool now open and the weather getting warmer. Pickleball is a great way to keep everyone in the family healthy and engaged. You can contact me directly at [email protected] if you want to set up a family lesson for everyone to learn how to play the game.
