Buy-the-Case at the Greencroft Club: A Membership Benefit
After six months of hard work, led by Katy Kirby, Food & Beverage Director, The Greencroft Club now has an off-premise Virginia ABC license!

While you are now able to order selected wine through the Club, an explanation about this opportunity is needed.

What purchase advantage the Greencroft Club offers

What purchase advantage the Greencroft Club offers

What Greencroft can do is find you reasonably priced wines, offer alternatives or our own “Club” deals. These may be close-outs where a wholesaler is clearing out inventory and making way for the next vintage. There are also monthly wine specials which can be particularly aggressive and offer Greencroft a purchasing opportunity.

Because of the need to add a small premium for charging your alcohol purchases to your Club account, your best price will be for those wines paid for at the time of pick-up.

We are sharing the information below to explain why there is always the possibility that your first selection may not be available, may not be available at the price you were expecting or may not be available in the quantities you request.

Retail wines fall into different categories affecting their availability

  • First, there are private label wines, such as the Kirkland brand at Costco. These are proprietary and available only through that retail account.
  • Secondly, there are “controlled” labels sold exclusively at specific stores such as Wegmans or Trader Joe’s. These stores are able to buy and distribute in such large quantities their price “control” comes into play.
  • Thirdly, large retailers like a Sam’s Club commit to buying large quantities of a particular wine. They can then dictate the price and sustain a low price mark-up. Even though the sales of $30/bottle wines can be greatly impacted by a reduced $10/bottle cost, large quantity purchases allow the wineries to move their inventory.
  • Finally, most wholesalers offer “quantity” purchases: a better deal on 10, 20 or more cases of wine at one time.

Please remember, the Greencroft Club cannot compete with any, or all, of these scenarios!

How the off-premise ABC license will work for you at the Greencroft Club

Below is the wine order form to place your order on-line (or download the printable version if you would rather drop off or call-in your order).

Once your wine order is received, a staff member will research availability, costs, etc., and report back to you regarding the status of your order. If you want less than a full case, and the wholesaler requires a full case for purchase, we will confidentially try to match up your request with another Member’s order. If, for some reason, your item is not available, we will offer alternatives.

At times you will receive information on wine “specials” for your consideration. This may be the most exciting opportunity. We will showcase a particular wine and offer reviews regarding moderately expensive wines of interest.

In closing, we are excited to offer this new wine purchasing opportunity and appreciate, in advance, your patience and understanding as we work through the dynamics of Buy-the-Case at the Greencroft Club. We are confident your savings will prove to be another advantage of your Greencroft Club Membership.

Evolution and Revolution in Women’s Fashion:
1850-1970 with Presenter: Liza Taylor

From whalebone corsets to microminis, the evolution of women’s fashion since 1850 has been influenced by world events as well as by visionary designers including Coco Chanel, Paul Poiret, and Yves St. Laurent. This program features a brief history of how fashion has adapted to and been influenced by changing times and industrial innovation. From haute couture to home sewing, the clothes we wear have a history. Longtime Vogue editor and arbiter of fashion Diana Vreeland once said, “Fashion is part of the daily air, and it changes all the time, with all the events. You can even see the approaching of a revolution in clothes. You can see and feel everything in clothes.”

The registration fee of $25.00 includes the lecture,
reception, and one adult beverage. Register through OLLI or The Greencroft Club. Don’t forget to make your dinner reservation, following the lecture.
